Timberwolf Trail - Week 6 - 2019-20 Edition

Community. That sums up this week in nature kindergarten. Whether it was building on our community or planning on our community fundraiser for Children's Hospital, we had a busy and productive week.

We kicked off our week with our friend, Prairie Joe. He taught us all about prairies and then showed us how to plant prairie seeds.

We had a fantastic time dispersing seeds. The future is very bright (and colorful) at the Timberwolf Trail.

We also enjoyed many exploration hikes, finding new treasures each time.

This week was also the final week before our first-ever Pumpkins for a Purpose event. We are so excited to host the event this weekend and hopefully raise lots of moiney for Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and get more people out on the trail.

Throughout the week, we decorated the trail in preparation for our guests.

In this process , we also discussed Collections of Nature and started our first collection: leaves.

The "biggest leaf pile ever" was started and will be added onto regularly as we prepare for our classroom Fall Celebration.

As our leaf pile grew, our puffball mushroom shrunk. Decomposition is well underway.

Needless to say, we had plenty of topics to describe in our nature notebooks.

With priairies and seeds fresh in our minds, I brought some milkweed pods from my own garden and helped our class disperse "fluffy fun" all over the newly-planted prairie.

We also continued the decorating and exploring.

Our community effort from previous years also paid off handsomely. Our class received recognition form the Snapshot Wisconsin trail camera program for our work at capturing photos on our land and  identifying the species from these pictures. We also received a gorgeous new wren house for our involvement in the Great Wisconsin Birdathon.

Our nature friends community grew with our first visit from the phenomenal David Stokes. We learned about animal and plant needs by working with collections from nature.

Even a rainy and chilly Friday couldn't keep us inside. We put new "Coming Soon" signs around our newly planted prairie and searched for signs of fall.

We found many, and they were beautiful.
