Sustainability Fair 2019 - Retzer Nature Center

Today was the second edition of Waukesha County's Sustainability Fair. This time around, it was hosted by the Retzer Nature Center. Just like the inaugural even a few years back, I was honored to lead a hike at this event.

With the rest of the family, I lead a hike about insects. We took to the woods to search for critters before heading back to the prairie and perfecting our insect sweeping.

While we all found a variety of different insects and bugs, our favorite was a monarch caterpillar of course.

After our hike, we dug into some of the array of activities throughout the grounds.

In our activities adventure, Embry lost her first ever tooth. Literally. It is somewhere on the Retzer trails.

We then walked on a beautiful trail to  serene place known as Brown's Fen. This was my first trip to this area but it absolutely won't be my last.

Lion's Den Gorge

We don't visit here as much as we should but we love our visits to Lion's Den Gorge in Grafton.

This bright and beautiful morning, we trekked the main trail down to the lake.

Thought the lake was beautiful, the wood chip pile might have been the highlight.

The waves were pretty choppy and the beach was pretty non-existent compared to prior visits but we found a way to sneak to a beachier spot and search for the best skipping stones.

We even took a cute selfie. . .sort of.

On our way back we found a rainbow of flowers.

We were tired, but all smiles after a wonderful walk at a pristine preserve.

East Coast Adventures

If picture says a thousand words, enjoy these many thousand words from our recent trip to the East Coast. Jillian and I loved the history. Embry and Arden loved the big city. Oakley loved the button on the hotel's ice machine. Enjoy this small snippet of pictures from a great week in New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts.
