Timberwolf Trail - Week 36 - 2018-19 Edition

Another wonderful week in the books. We were excited to find a new nest and even more excited that it is the nest of a new bird: the tree swallow.

The excitement continued as we noticed some of the butterfly garden's plants blossom.

Even more excitement might have been the search and collection of various insects.

However, the most excitement was certainly the trip to the Retzer Nature Center, our final visit this year.

Our Nature Celebration visit consisted of stations, kicking off with animal encounters from some of Retzer's snakes and a wild one caught minutes before our arrival.

On our way to the second station, we investigated the badger hole behind the building.

We saw turtles at the pond and caught macroinvertebrates, frogs, and even fish.

Then it was time for a hike and a story.

Our story involved a dragonfly and right on cue, one appeared and posed for a photo.

The next station involved a boardwalk stroll through the area with lots of shade, much needed after a day in the sun.

We saw lots of spring plants and flowers, heard plenty of birds, and even took a "1-minute vacation."

We wrapped up the day and year with a look at some insects.

We met,

swept,

and collected many six-legged friends amongst other crawling critters.

And there you have it, another Retzer visit and year-long collaboration complete. Until next year. . .
