Timberwolf Trail - Week 37 - 2018-19 Edition

The final full week of nature kindergarten was full of outdoor adventures. All five classes enjoyed some morning trail time. It is always to see so many children enjoying themselves in Mother Nature.

They also spent some of their time helping wood chip our natural play area. For nature kindergarteners, outdoor work is still play. 😊

There was also plenty of time to explore, though bugs and bird egg monitoring are the current favorites. We found many new nests, birds, and even baby birds.

One especially proud moment came mid-week While I aim to provide my own students wonderful outdoor experiences. an ultimate goal is to provide opportunities for my entire school, district, and community.

Regarding this mission, I was thrilled to have a grade level form a different elementary school in the district have a field trip, or TimberTrip, to our trail and outdoor classroom. My class was  a wonderful host, leading and teaching eight separate stations around the trail.

Our field trip consisted of birding, a scavenger hunt, tree climbing, den and nest building, insect sweeping, nature art, and of course, lots of play.

Besides the stations, we also explore many new things along the trail.

This week was also the start of our Milkweed March. With a cold spring, the march was later this year but we searched the grounds for milkweed in order to collect and raise monarch eggs and caterpillars. Students have the option of taking them home to raise with their families or enjoy the process sin our classroom.

While we searched the outdoor classroom for milkweed, we found much more.

We also marched around the building, collecting eggs and picking up trash.

Our indoor classroom now has a caterpillar sanctuary for observations.

We ended our week with a kindergarten field day, rotating between five fun-filled stations. I enjoyed them all, but was especially excited about the tree cookie decorating station, thanks to our very generous supporters, Nic & Dan;\'s Tree Service.
