Ice. Fun and frightening at the same time. While it offers up some breathtaking images and can certainly be tons of fun, the thick coating of ice covering our trail and surrounding land did offer new challenges this week. So too did the return of subzero temperatures and even more chilling winds.
Navigating the ice can be tricky for novices. We reiterated the importance of taking it slow, penguin waddling, and sliding our feet as we traversed our fields of fog and ice.
Though the slow slowed us down, it didn't stop us. natural play and exploration cannot be stopped!
Our indoor time was focused on bird communication and the start of our weather project. the class divided into five groups based on a severe weather phenomena they chose to study. this week, it was background research week so the kids immersed themselves in different resources to learn more about their storm.
We also began our next picture book pen pal project, writing our initial letter to our newest friend, Pat Zietlow Miller. Based on her story, Be Kind, we also created our own Kindness Cash that we can use to share acts of kindness with the class. Our class will enjoy a very large act of kindness this week as we host our Cookies for a Cause cookie sale with 100% of proceeds supporting our classroom charity: Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
We will continue preparing for our cookie sale, study severe weather, and dig into bird adaptations this week. We will also explore and play with Mother Nature as much as we can.
