Fall arrived with fury this week. The many, many falling leaves gave us plenty to explore.
We kicked off the week getting out and about in the leaves as this was the natural item chosen for our Classroom Collection of Nature.
We also enjoyed a bright and blustery Sit Spot experience before taking a break to play.
We had a special guest join us. Laurie Lawlor, an author of many children's books, read us her story, Big Tree Down. In her visit, we brainstormed why trees are important and discussed lots of things about writing, including generating ideas, making connections to our life, and the importance of revising.
Each day, we collected leaves and started our won leaf pile. Base don one of our read alouds, The Biggest Leaf Pile Ever, we were inspired and challenged to make a leaf bile as big as we can possible make it.
We also did some leaf investigations and conquered leaf challenges.
Challenge #1 ; Find two different types of oak leaves.
Challenge #2 - Find a leaf as big as your head.
More leaf challenges on the way!

Besides the leaves, we also found our puffball. . .or whatever was left of it.
Before we played some more, we also sorted leaves by color for a very exciting array of art projects coming up soon. Stay tuned!
Our week ended with a visit form our favorite naturalist Mr. Stokes. We learned about collection of nature by exploring many of his collections. From turtle shells to rocks, nets to stuffed animals, and leaves to animal toys, we had a blast learning and playing.
