Fifty incoming first and second graders had the opportunity to spend a week out on the Ice Age Trail as part of their Saunters course. This is a picture tor of their treks. Enjoy!
After Day One being a day of learning about the trail and practicing hiking and exploration skills on Woodside Elementary's Timberwolf Trail, Day 2 took us to Lapham Peak. Though the tower was closed and it was a bit muddy, we still had plenty of fun.
Day 3 was at Pike Lake. Not wanting to miss a tower two days in a row, we headed there first before enjoying lots of natural play at some of the forest's most amazing trees.
Our urban hike was Day 4 in Hartland. After touring the educational displays and reading a picture book at the library, we took the paved paths through this Ice Age Community and took breaks at the parks and the Bark River.
We wrapped up the week with our Family Hike at the Loew Lake Segment. The canopy cooled us slightly from the sweltering heat and we enjoyed a great afternoon on the trail.
